Smart Connect: how FollowNet picks a path

Automatic protocol selection is not magic — here is what it optimizes for and when to override it.

The job of Smart Connect

Smart Connect tries to get you a working, fast-enough tunnel without forcing every user to become a protocol engineer. It weighs network conditions and known failure modes — especially DPI-heavy paths.

When to override

If you know WireGuard is fine at home, lock it. If you travel through hostile networks, leave Smart Connect on or try AmneziaWG / Hysteria2 manually. Settings → Protocol is always there.

What it is not

Smart Connect is not a promise of invisibility or a substitute for device hygiene. It is a practical default so “one tap” stays true outside the lab.
